Explore Lefkada

Lefkada is the fourth-largest island in the Ionian Sea and one of the seven Ionian Islands. It is located south of Corfu and close to the region of Aetolia-Acarnania on the western mainland of Greece. Unlike most Greek islands, Lefkada is connected to the mainland by a 50-meter floating bridge, allowing easy access by car free of charge. Today, tourism is the island’s main economic activity, alongside olive oil production, viticulture, and fishing.

Human presence on Lefkada dates back to the Paleolithic era. The renowned German archaeologist Wilhelm Dörpfeld, a collaborator of Heinrich Schliemann during the excavations at Troy, conducted extensive archaeological research in Nidri. His discoveries, including findings from the Bronze Age (around 2000 BC),
led him to develop the theory that Lefkada may have been the Ithaca described in Homer’s epics.
